Another 1st fill Spanish oak, ex-Sherry hogshead of Glenrothes - filled at “still” strength, this is still sitting at 66.7% vol after 7 years of maturation. A lovely dark mahogany colour with amber lights and virtually no beading due to the short time spent in cask. Some nose prickle, as you would expect, with fragrant dried herbs in a bouquet garnish wrapped in hessian, hard Scottish toffee and burnt chocolate sponge cake. Then, new canvas gym shoes with some chalky Edinburgh rock (rhubarb flavour) and Tunnocks caramel wafers. Sweet, then salt water taffy, with a rich and pronounced finish. With the addition of water, it becomes more tablet-like, sweet then tannic. Very mouth-drying with a spicy finish of lingering chillies.
